What's coming up for EDCI?
The Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa (EDCI) has been a dream for many professionals, individuals struggling with eating disorders and families supporting their loved ones for many, many years. It is time for Iowans to have a centralized network organization for: prevention, resource information, referrals for treatment, and support when they or someone they love or work with is struggling with an eating disorder.
The mission of the Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa is to prevent eating disorders and to serve as a catalyst of hope, acceptance, understanding, and healing for all impacted by eating disorders.
Iowa has lost way too many women, men, girls, and boys to eating disorders. The rates of eating disorders continue to rise year after year. What was once thought to be an issue which impacted college aged Caucasian females has now taken a non-discriminatory role in our culture. Everyone is impacted: both genders (men are struggling at higher and higher rates and are literally closing the gender gap), all ages (there are inpatient facilities specializing in eating disorder treatment starting for kids age 8 all the way through older adults well into retirement), all socio-economic groups, all ethnicities...
EVERYONE needs to know the warning signs of eating disorders.
ALL Iowans need a centralized source of help, hope, support and recovery options.
EDCI envisions an Iowa without eating disorders.
We hope you agree with our passion, and will help us spread the word about the important work this coalition is starting.
We have been granted our State of Iowa not-for-profit status and our Federal 501c3 not-for-profit status.
