Erica Bobst is a licensed mental health counselor and registered nurse with over 20 years of experience supporting clients and fellow clinicians across the state of Iowa. Known for her deep commitment to the treatment of disordered eating, she is considered one of the few true specialists in our state. Erica is skilled in the treatment of all clinical and subclinical eating disorders, as well as depression and anxiety. Her approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and emphasizes growth and recovery within the nuanced work of treating disordered eating. She has additional training in Family Based Treatment (FBT), is growing her skill set in Radically Open-Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT) and had a 6-month intensive via the Academy for Eating Disorders in Integrative Cognitive Affective Therapy (ICAT). Rest assured, if she isn't truly skilled in a diagnosis or treatment modality, she will be transparent about this and refer you to a network of providers with whom she has built relationships. Her early ballet training shaped a lifelong philosophy that values learning through process and perseverance—a mindset she brings into both her clinical work, supervision, and teaching. Erica has held clinical and academic roles at the University of Iowa, including serving as both a nurse and later a nurse clinician specialist in the Department of Psychiatry and as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Rehabilitation and Counselor Education. She is an approved supervisor in the state of Iowa, offering both individual and group supervision to graduate-level counseling students, temporary licensed clinicians seeking full licensure (tLMHC and LMSW), and psychiatric resident physicians. Erica has dedicated her career to growing confident, skilled providers through education, supervision, and direct clinical care. In addition to clinical supervision, Erica provides consultation and training opportunities for providers seeking deeper engagement in eating disorder treatment. She has a great passion to help to bridge academic learning with practical application in outpatient mental health settings. She is a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders, the Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association, the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, and is actively involved with the Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa, having served as a former board member. Outside of work, Erica brings the same passion for connection and community to her personal life. A former ballet dancer, she now enjoys lake days in the summer, cheering her favorite team at fall tailgates, and spending time with her growing family—including her new role as a proud grandma. She and her husband continue to farm his family’s land outside of town, finding joy in the balance of rural life and meaningful work. After many years in group practice, Erica is excited to lead her own practice and continue supporting both clients and clinicians in new ways.
